There was chaos on Saturday morning after unidentified gunmen invaded the Mammy Market located inside the military barracks in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State and shot dead a butcher known simply as Ridwan.
The attack reportedly occurred around 8 a.m. when traders were just opening for business. According to witnesses, about four armed men entered the busy market and fired several shots into the air, sending traders and customers running for safety.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants went straight to Ridwan’s meat stall and opened fire on him multiple times before fleeing the scene. The entire attack was said to have lasted only a few minutes.
A trader, who identified herself as Mummy Blessing, recounted:
“We had just started the day when we heard gunshots. Everyone ran for their lives. The men wore masks and went directly to Ridwan’s stall. They shot him and escaped. When we returned, we found him lying in a pool of blood.”
Another eyewitness, Musa, said the positioning of Ridwan’s stall made it difficult for him to escape during the attack.
“They were close to him when the shooting started. He had no way out, and that’s how they got him,” he said.
Ridwan was reportedly rushed to the military clinic within the barracks in a tricycle but was allegedly rejected and referred elsewhere. Sadly, he was later confirmed dead.
Sources claimed the attack might have been carried out by suspected cultists. His family has since buried him according to Islamic rites.
